Senior Software Engineer

TeachForward is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to help lead our development teams.

What you’ll be working on

At TeachForward you’ll be working on products that educators rely on every single day to further their professional development. Your work will impact teaching and learning in the U.S. and throughout the world. You’ll be working with a specialized team of developers and QA professionals with a reputation for delivering quality products on time. Our team is top-notch, and we want you to make it even better.

This Software Engineer position will be primarily focused on evolving our current applications into a consolidated product suite. You will be working with product owners, technical leadership, and the rest of the development team to add new product features, enhance and support existing applications, and migrate application features into the product suite. Your primary focus will be designing and writing code for our cloud native applications leveraging the Micronaut and Spring Boot frameworks to implement features, address issues as needed, participate in code reviews, and be involved with our deployment and release processes. This role will also be an active participant in driving the evolution of our product suite including the overall design of the product along with which frameworks are used, and prioritizing the technical aspects of the transformation.

On any given day you may:

  • Engage with the product owners to refine requirements and identify enhancements
  • Produce efficient, performant, and scalable code
  • Mentor team members to level up our overall skill set
  • Plan and decompose work required to deliver new features
  • Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback
  • Dig into system issues to understand and fix the cause, not the symptom
  • Actively participate in identifying and deciding between tactical and strategic solutions

What you bring to the table

You are an engineer with 5 or more years of combined experience with Spring Boot, Grails and/or Micronaut. You can work independently to get things done while collaborating with others on architectural and process decisions. You demonstrate an understanding that the quality of application code is directly related to the tests that support it. You are comfortable with giving and receiving feedback from your teammates and others in the organization. You can think on your feet and conceptualize what needs to be done from incomplete and evolving requirements. You hit deadlines and communicate effectively.

The successful candidate will also have experience with:
